Susan's painting is strongly influenced by her fascination with landscape, with the underlying rocks, the environmental processes, and the human activities which have shaped it.

She sees symbolic power in limited views, and is interested in how the particular framing of any view may speak visually directly to our emotions. As well as painting on the spot, she uses her own photographs as an personal exploration of the landscape of an area, waiting until a photo "speaks" before she can interpret it - or many at once - in a painting.
